Raspberry, fruit-bearing bush of the genus Rubus (family Rosaceae). Raspberry bushes bear juicy red, purple, or black (rarely orange, amber, or pale-yellow) berries that separate from the core that remains on the plant; in the related blackberry, the core is a part of the fruit. The raspberry section of Rubus probably evolved in eastern Asia, where more than 200 species are known.
Red raspberries are propagated by suckers from the roots of the parent plant. Root cuttings about 75 mm long are also used for rapid increase of new varieties and propagation of new varieties. The Raspberries contain iron and vitamin C. |
